About
Practical project maths, published by AUSV Systems
What this site is for
Woodshop Math helps people estimate material quantities, compare lumber and timber costs, plan sheet goods and understand common measurements before they start cutting. Most project maths is simple arithmetic wrapped around conventions that are easy to get wrong: nominal versus actual sizes, board feet versus linear feet, kerf, waste allowance and seasonal movement.
Every calculator is free. There are no accounts, subscriptions or paywalls, and calculator inputs are processed in your browser rather than sent to a server.
Who writes it
Guides, calculators and project plans are written and maintained by AUSV Systems, the company that publishes the site. Each guide carries a publication date, a review date and the specific publications its figures came from. Project plans are calculated with the site's own calculators and checked by automated tests, not photographed builds.
The editorial policy sets out how sources are chosen, how corrections are handled and why advertising never influences what the guides say.
What is out of scope
Results are planning estimates. Structural adequacy, safety requirements, permits and local building rules are not covered and must be verified separately. The site does not claim workshop testing, engineering review or code authority. Where reference data is regional, such as the North American softwood dressed-size lookup, the page says so.
